A historic luxury cutlery firm is carving its way into new markets in the Far East after securing a string of restaurant orders in China. Arthur Price, which was founded in Staffordshire in 1902, is believed to have become the first British company of its kind to break into the cutlery market in China. Chief executive Simon Price said the potential for the Lichfield-based family-owned company was enormous. "A huge amount of people want traditional products over there. After the Spring Fair, we had an approach from a Chinese distributor and he said 'Would we be interested in distributing our brands in China. "He said he thought we could do £1 million in three years in China. 90 per cent of Chinese people use chopsticks at home while 90 per cent of Chinese use cutlery when eating out. Mr Price said the Lichfield firm's breakthrough into the Chinese market was with restaurant chain Nice Meeting You. "The distributor said the best thing to do was to sponsor restaurants. They have 12,000 people a day in 30 restaurants," he said. "By the end of 2016, they will have 200 restaurants and they are putting our products into eight restaurants so far. There is now an Arthur Price website in Chinese. We started off slowly, we have only done £50,000 so far. "But we are the first British company over there and by the end of this year, we will be fully functional. The potential is enormous, it could be worth an absolute fortune. "The Chinese love the Britishness and we are a brand new brand in China. They are opening three House of Fraser stores over there and this gives us a great opportunity to be in House of Fraser. "I do not know where this is going to end up. You have to know the system and we have got a company over there which knows the ropes. Mr Price said the firm currently exported to 57 countries worldwide and was looking to increase its overseas sales. He added: "In the Middle East, we have just opened a new concession in Abu Dhabi in House of Fraser. We are also in Bahrain, Lebanon, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, Dubai. "It is all about finding partners to develop the brand. UK sales are still the biggest. If we get the likes of the Middle East, Russia and China up and running, we have got a very good chance of increasing exports. "We want to do £9 million of turnover this year, 15 per cent of that is exports and we are looking to increase that to. Source: www.birminghampost.co.uk
Taxpayers will be expected to fork out for the glittering service which will include crystal glassware, silver cutlery and fine china all emblazoned with the EU flag. The tableware will be wheeled out to guests in Brussels and at 140 embassies around the world and is the latest examples of the organisation's increasingly ludicrous delusions of grandeur. MPs today branded the expenditure "appalling", whilst taxpayers who have suffered years of austerity at the hands of European bureaucrats called it a "blatant provocation". The crockery will mean that 3,360 officials and guests at the European External Action Service (EEAS) - The EU equivalent of the UK foreign office - can dine in sumptuous luxury. Plans are also afoot to buy hundreds of silver ice buckets, drinks trays and candelabras and thousands of glasses for whisky, brandy and champagne, all to be enjoyed by Brussels bureaucrats at taxpayers' expense. Shockingly the largely toothless EEAS - which can only suggest policy to member states - will spend ten times more on the crockery than a set recently bought to serve the most powerful government on earth at the White House. Tory MEP Geoffrey Van Orden raged: "If we need further confirmation of the pretentions and aspirations to grandeur of this organisation, this dinner service is it. It is absolutely appalling. “We must put a scythe to the costs of the EEAS before it gets out of hand. We can no longer tolerate these false ambitions, not least when we are cutting back our own embassies. The news was also greeted with fury in Greece , where the EU has just imposed huge tax hikes and swingeing public spending cuts in return for a £60 billion bailout fund. Athenian taxi driver Giorgious Lougiakis fumed: “This is just a blatant provocation to the Greek people. The huge bill was revealed in The Telegraph, which has seen documents showing Eurocrats' ambitious plans to purchase property worth as much as £312 million around the world to turn into EU embassies. Pen pushers at the EEAS have hugely ambitious plans for expansion, and are encouraging member states to close down their own embassies and instead embed diplomats in the new EU outposts. Tories have repeatedly raised fears that the lavishly funded service is trying to undermine the independence of individual governments. EU spending has been under the spotlight in recent weeks, with Eurocrats. Source: www.express.co.uk
scalers compared to American Eagle XP scalers, and to scientifically assess the relative effectiveness of high quality stainless steel compared to coated scalers. The test results show that Hu-Friedy EverEdge Technology is 30 percent sharper when brand new and retains this advantage even after simulated use when compared to the leading “sharpen free” scaler brand. “The goal of this scientific study is to clarify the sharpness of hand scalers. The truth is that coated scalers are not as sharp and actually cannot be sharpened without rendering the scaler useless,” said Ken Serota, president of Hu-Friedy. “For more than 100 years, Hu-Friedy has been dedicated to helping clinicians perform at their best, and we felt it was our duty to dispel the myths and provide objective information about which scaler starts sharper and stays sharper longer. And the research validates that EverEdge is sharper both out of the box and after use. Dental hygiene textbooks and educators acknowledge that sharper scalers are critical for effective removal of deposits during oral prophylaxis procedures. A sharper scaler is better because it is more:. Clinically effective since calculus is easily removed, not burnished. Comfortable for clinicians, causing less hand and wrist fatigue. Comfortable for patients due to less pressure needed for calculus removal. Efficient as less time is needed to scale The independent test evaluated two items: sharpness of the scalers when brand new and sharpness after repeated use. “Scalers serve as an extension of dental clinicians’ hands and should not be considered disposable,” added Serota. “Clinicians want to use the most effective and sharpest scaler to achieve the best clinical outcomes, while providing a more comfortable patient experience. EverEdge scalers are made with an advanced stainless steel alloy that provides superior edge-retention. The fine, sharp edge means less hand fatigue for clinicians and greater comfort for patients. Hu-Friedy’s proprietary processing ensures that the superior edge retention and wear characteristics of EverEdge Technology will last the entire life of the instrument. Since there is not a superficial coating, EverEdge scalers can be resharpened to extend the useful life. During the research, the blade of each instrument was tested by repeatedly.
