SKANEATELES | Come rain or shine, this upcoming weekend in Skaneateles will be another busy one. The annual Curbstone Festival has been a seasonal staple in the community for decades. There will be over 30 businesses participating in this year's villagewide sidewalk sale, including plenty of first-timers: Nest 58, Arabella and Finger Lakes on Tap, to name a few. Of the familiar local shops, Imagine will be having sales on jewelry and various pieces of art. Rhubarb will be knocking 50 percent off cooking supplies and kitchen necessities. Gallery 54 will be offering discounts on painting, sculptures and more. Veterans Sandra Schmidt and Suzanne Pittard, owners of Fleur-de-lis Florist and White Sleigh, said they are looking forward to the event. The two business owners have their routines, and they utilize Curbstone as an opportunity to turn over their stock. "We have lots of goodies," said Schmidt, looking over at the pile of items the staff was sorting though. "As you can see, we have a lot of baskets. The florist said items in the store will be 20 percent off, and the pottery, baskets and other home accessories outside will be marked down between 60 and 80 percent. "We'll be offering collectibles and ornaments for around 50 percent off, and some prices will be as low as 25 cents," Pittard said. However, the business owners are not simply giving away items. For visitors who have come into their businesses, it's evident that both offer hard-to-find and unique items. Because an item can be found as a bargain, it does not mean that the item is to be viewed as "cheap. "I want customers to find something meaningful," Pittard said. While walking through the store, she pointed out various items, including handmade Skaneateles-themed ornaments. Demonstrations will be adding more dazzle and flavor to Curbstone as well when Imagine presents jewelry-making techniques. Rhubarb and Wustof Cutlery Executive Chef Mike Garaghty are teaming up for a cooking demonstration. , which is located at 37 Fennell St. , will be offering more food samples, with a Big Green Egg demonstration. Entertainment will be offered, as well, with magic, juggling and balloon art by The Jackman Twins from noon to 4 p. m. Thursday, noon to 3 p. m. Friday and 11 a. m. to 3 p. m. Saturday, and a performance by Gazella Dance Studio at 4 p. m. Friday. Live music includes Tom Barnes from 4 to 6 p. m. Thursday, the. Source: auburnpub.com

At your average brand new, white hot New York City restaurant, a few Instagram hits usually emerge. These are the things that, because they're either novel, or photogenic, or actually just taste good, manage to make it into every third photo on a restaurant's Instagram tag page — the corn husk meringue at Cosme, or the pizza at Mission Chinese... The Clocktower, the new hotel restaurant from mega restaurateur Stephen Starr and empire-building British chef Jason Atherton, is just such a blazing hot spot, but on Instagram the food is only the half of it. Besides the steak and the uni... All told, the Clocktower is quickly emerging as the hottest dishware destination of summer 2015. One woman is mostly responsible for this collection of mismatched, partially vintage, and imminently instagrammable serving vehicles: Randi Sirkin,... She has many duties, of course, but one of them is to help decide the look of every one of Starr's restaurants, and to find the knives, forks, spoons, plates, glasses, candle holders, salt shakers, ice buckets, and every other accessory needed to... Sometimes that means finding a stylish but affordable brand capable of supplying Buddakan with enough plates to do 900 covers a night. Sometimes it means copper plating every single wine bucket at Upland. Other times it means trolling Etsy for vintage gravy boats shaped like chickens. The Clocktower, which currently has about 10 different chicken-shaped gravy boats, involved more Etsy trolling than most. Most of the dishware is by request of Atherton, who Sirkin says was "very involved" in the design process — not always the case with chefs — but she still did most of the legwork. Here's a look at some of it's most out-there serving items, and where they came from. These are the plates that come with the steaks (which are served on a wooden board). Sirkin says that after being informed in an email that "the chef would like to buy skull plates," she embarked on a Google search and learned that there aren't a lot of good-looking skull plates out there. But she did find a woman on Etsy who puts decals on vintage porcelain,. Source: ny.eater.com
